Last Friday, the 19th<\/sup>\u00a0of May 2017, Hanoi Fishery Department (FD) held the first ever meeting on the releasing of native fish species into Dong Mo Lake. The meeting, “Releasing fish to restore native fishery resources” was held to coincide with the traditional annual event to release fish stock into Dong Mo Lake on the outskirts of Hanoi, Vietnam. The event brought together more than 120 leaders and representatives from 20 FPDs from 20 Northern provinces of Vietnam to release approx. 500kg of three native fish species into Dong Mo Lake. Followed by a formal meeting in which the Asian Turtle Program (ATP) of Indo Myanmar Conservation (IMC) was invited to give a talk about the conservation of the Swinhoe’s softshell turtle (Rafetus swinhoei<\/em>) at Dong Mo Lake. During the meeting newly developed awareness material, the Swinhoe’s softshell turtle factsheets, was also delivered to each participant.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe meeting was a precious opportunity for us to meet and raise support from such agency who directly manage the fishery resources, particularly the need for conservation of Swinhoe\u2019s softshell turtle from northern provinces of Vietnam where historical and potential sites for conservation of the species are located<\/em>\u201d, said Ha Hoang, the Vietnam Program Coordinator of the ATP.<\/p>\n
