{"id":1855,"date":"2016-05-26T11:43:13","date_gmt":"2016-05-26T10:43:13","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.conservationpulse.com\/?p=1855"},"modified":"2021-03-05T07:07:51","modified_gmt":"2021-03-05T07:07:51","slug":"2016-05-school_program_in_quang_nam","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/indomyanmarconservation.org\/my\/2016-05-school_program_in_quang_nam\/","title":{"rendered":"Build the next generations to protect turtles"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>To celebrate the World Turtle Day, the Asian Turtle Program held an education program for students in Quang Nam Province, central Vietnam, to learn about\u00a0 turtles and tortoises of Vietnam and how to protect them. The presentation were leaded by officers at Asian Turtle Program and two volunteers from Bio-Environment faculty at Da Nang University. During two days on the 18<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0and 19<sup>th<\/sup>\u00a0May 2016, 635 students of all 17 classes from grade 6 to 9 at Ly Tu Trong\u00a0 secondary school, Dien Minh commune, Dien Ban town, Quang Nam province were introduced to the turtle diversity in the world and Vietnam, with a special focus on the endemic Vietnamese pond turtles (<em>Mauremys annamensis<\/em>), the important role of turtles in the ecosystem as well as human culture. The students all raised their hand in support of saving the uique group of reptiles.<\/p>\n<p>On World Turtle Day let&#8217;s get more children learning about turtles!<\/p>\n<p>The school program was a part of a conservation projects supported by the Critically Ecosystem Partnership Fund (CEPF) to develop a strategy for conservation of important tortoise and freshwater turtle species in Vietnam.<\/p>\n<p>We would like to thank the Education &amp; Training Department of Quang Nam province and the Education &amp; Training Department of Dien Ban town for their support during the school program.
