With the help of our Vietnamese partner, Education for Nature – Vietnam (ENV)<\/a>, a local man agreed to hand over two turtles he was keeping as pets to us<\/p>\n

The man called ENV in the hope of getting information to get the animals, one Elongated Tortoise (Indotestudo elongata<\/em>) and one Yellow-Headed Temple Turtle (Heosemys annandalii<\/em>), back to the wild.<\/p>\n

The elongated Tortoise is now assessed as Critically Endangered, as of IUCN\u2019s 2019 Red List, while the Yellow-Headed Temple Turtle is Endangered.<\/p>\n

The two creatures have been transferred and under intensive care at the Turtle Conservation Centre, Cuc Phuong National Park.<\/p>\n

The Asian Turtle Program strongly encourages pet keepers not to buy turtles as pets and to transfer their animals to rescue facilities.<\/p>\n

We would like to thank\u00a0 Tran Tung\u00a0and his relative for willingly transferring the two turtles so that they can be treated at the TCC and hopefully released in the future.<\/p>\n
